Grooming your dog at home
Regular grooming keeps your dog's coat healthy, cuts down the hair round the house and lets you check their skin, ears and paws. A few minutes a few times a week is better than a big session once a month.
- Brushes: slicker brushes and self-cleaning brushes for everyday brushing.
- Deshedding tools: tools and gloves that lift loose undercoat in moulting season.
- Clippers: cordless, rechargeable clippers and paw trimmers for tidying at home.
- Nail grinders and clippers: a grinder files nails down gradually, which many dogs find easier than clipping.
- Towels and drying robes: absorbent towels and robes for after baths and muddy walks.
- Paw cleaners: a cup with soft bristles that washes muddy paws at the door.
How often to groom
Short coats: a brush once a week. Long, double or curly coats: several times a week, more in spring and autumn when they moult. Nails usually need trimming every few weeks; if you can hear them on a hard floor, they're too long. If you're unsure about clipping, ask a groomer to show you, or book one through Pooky Dog.
